FAMILY TIME HOURS The Teen Center is proud to offer Family Fun Day Fridays from 5:00pm-7:00pm and 3:00pm-5:00pm during the summer. Children and parents are welcome to come and play a game of pool or ping pong, or attempt to climb the 20 foot rock wall, board games or attend family outings, which are $2.00 per person/child 6 years & older unless otherwise noted. E. DONALD COOK, JR. TECHNOLOGY CENTER The Computer Lab houses 8 Pentium 4 computers with DSL Internet access and full Microsoft Office Pro software. The E. Donald Cook, Jr. Technology Center, located within the Teen Center, students can research and create resumes that will have a positive affective in their future. The technology center is free and available to all students with a current school ID. TEEN COUNSELING CENTER Strengthen your family’s relationship by taking advantage of our on site counselors. The Teen Center is proud to extend family counseling through Hillsides Counseling Services. Hillsides have been providing mental health services to children and families in the Los Angeles County for more than 30 years. Hillsides can help you and your family address areas such as, depression, oppositional defiance, anxiety, communication problems, sexual abuse, and familial issues. Counseling services are extended through Hillsides located inside the Teen Center. If you are interested in Hillsides services or have any questions, please contact (626) 960-7171, Ext. 367. Medi-Cal accepted. Non Medi-Cal clients will be seen on a short-term basis and then offered referral assistance. TEEN CENTER OPEN HOUSE Attention Parents! Do you have any questions about the Teen Center? This is your opportunity to visit the center ask questions about our programs and meet our Recreation Leaders. This will be taking place the week June 23rd- June 27th from 2:00pm-5:00pm. We will have such as T-Shirt design, Jell-O Race, and Smoothie making. For any further questions, stop by The Teen Center today. KITCHEN CREATIONS Learn the basics of healthy eating as well as how to prepare nutritious snacks, like fruit and yogurt parfaits, trail mix, smoothies & quick meals. Join us every other Thursday starting March 7th. Explore the world of food through Kitchen Creations as we prepare delicious treats! All teens are encouraged to participate in the cooking process. Kitchen Creations will take place at 2:00PM during the summer and 3:30pm during the school year in the Teen Center kitchen. Please pick up a flyer for monthly menu items. STUDENT ELITE The Student Elite’s purpose is to provide the City of Baldwin Park with vital input on teen issues while promoting greater involvement of youth in the community and municipal government. Student Elite tries to identify youth-related issues and serve in an advisory capacity to the Community Services Commission by recommending solutions as related to programs or projects in the City. The Teen Center is currently looking for members. If you are interested in being part of the Student Elite we will meet on Tuesday, March 12th from 3:15pm-3:45pm and will meet every Tuesday after that. COLLEGE NOW Have you ever wondered what college life is like, and what it takes to get there? Well here’s your chance to find out! Join us as we learn the steps of how to become a successful candidate that colleges are looking for. In this program participants will learn the basics of the college process, how to fill out an application, financial aid forms, personal statements, résumé and much more. You will also be the chance to take campus tours to some of our favorite colleges, such as Cal State Long Beach, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, USC and more! College Now meets on the following dates at 3:30pm. March 12th – Trip to Rio Hondo College April 11th – Discussion First Day of School Now What? TUTORING Does your child need assistance with homework? Every Wednesday from3:30pm -4:30pm.There will be volunteer tutors on site to assist in Math, whether it would be Pre-Algebra, Geometry or Algebra II. Stop by or call us for additional information. BABY THINK IT OVER Baby Think It Over is a teen pregnancy prevention program designed to educate teens about the realities of having a baby. This 7 week class is offered during the school year, it covers the areas of financial responsibilities, proper baby care, sex education, as well as goal setting. The last week of the course, teens are able to take home a baby simulator, which they are responsible for feeding, changing, as well as caring for. Baby Think It Over Takes place Tuesday’s from 4:00pm-5:30pm, Second session starts March 19th stop by the Teen Center to sign up or for more information please call (626) 960-7171 Ext. 363. VENUS VENUS is a year-round program designed for young ladies to spend time together as they learn, make friends, and create memories! This program is intended to encourage adolescents to be more creative, boost their self-esteem and stay healthy! Guest speakers will present various contemporary topics, which may include; Domestic Violence, Teen Dating, and Planned Parenthood. Participants will also partake in numerous activities and trips such as Girls Night Out! Ladies we encourage to sign up as soon as possible as space is limited! Meetings are held each Wednesday from 4:30pm-5:30pm. WOLFPACK GROUP This program will teach young men about goal setting, decision-making and responsibility. Participants take part in an interactive club that will meet to discuss contemporary topics weekly. Many of the topics will include interactive activities as well as guest speakers and also guys night out excursions. The WolfPack group is designed for 13-18 year olds who are in the prime male stages of their young development transitioning into adulthood. This program will enable teens to correspond with staff teens their own age to discuss and find solutions on relevant issues taking place in their lives. The program will be held every Wednesday from 5:30PM-6:30PM. Don’t miss out and sign up today! SCENIC OUTLOOK Ready for fun and adventure outdoors? Join us we get guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices and gentle stretching and mindful yoga with group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life. Scenic Outlook will meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 4:30pm-5:30pm. OPEN MIC NIGHT: WORK SHOPS Do you play an instrument? Write poetry? Or rap? Open Mic Night is your opportunity to get together with other teens and share ideas and create new music styles. We will be meeting once a month starting Thursday, March 14th from 5:00pm-6:00pm. TEEN CENTER MOBILE The Baldwin Park Teen Center will be transporting students from both Sierra Vista High and Jr. High to the Teen Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Pick up is at 3:15pm, the van will be located next to the library on Frazier st. A liability waiver will be needed for transportation. Transportation will begin this fall. EQUALITY This 100% youth ran group over seen by Hillsides and the Teen Center will offer weekly discussion groups, a peer-led mental health group, social events, and volunteer services, Geared for LGBTQ students, Family, and Friends. Educational workshops along with vocational workshops will be offered. We will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30pm-4:30pm. VOLUNTEER Everyone benefits when someone chooses to volunteer! Volunteers are essential to providing quality services to the residents of our community. Youth ages 13-18 are encouraged to show community pride and get involved in programs and events, through volunteer work with the Teen Center .Volunteers reap benefits such as acquiring new skills, meeting new people, gaining valuable work experience, making professional contacts, building self-confidence and improving the quality of life in the community. Volunteers give the City the ability to strengthen existing programs and services as well as develop new ones. Sign up at the Teen Center today! RECYCLE ADVOCATES With the help of Waste Management and the City of Baldwin Park teens have come together to educate the community and younger youth on recycling. Teens will visit designated elementary schools to demonstrate recycling activities, separation of recyclables, and community cleaning. This is a great way for teens to strengthen resumes, public speaking skills, and community service hours. The advocates will meet once at week at there specified sites. For further information and to sign up contact the Teen Center today. TEEN OF THE MONTH The Teen Center keeps a monthly attendance of the teens who visit us regularly. To become teen of the month one must be in attendance most of the month and also participate in the centers programs and show good behavior all around. WATER WEDNESDAYS Join us every Wednesday as we participate in fun water activities like Dodge the Sponge, Wet and Wild Kick Ball, and Water bounce. We recommend bringing extra clothes if you plan on participating. Water Wednesdays will start at 2:00pm starting June 5th. JR HIGH FRIDAY NIGHT DANCES The Teen Center host dances throughout the school year for Jr. High students. The dance begins at 6:30pm and concludes at 9:30pm. The charge for the dance is $5.00 per student. A Snack Bar will be open and selling refreshments and snacks for an additional charge. Space is limited, so kids need to plan to arrive early. A valid school ID is required and a Dress Code will be strictly enforced. Children that have not been picked up by 9:50pm will be sent to the Police Station until their parents/guardian are able to pick them up. Scheduled Dances March 22nd & May 17th |
