Mission
State or Main Objective of the Department
To provide law enforcement services in a fair and impartial manner in order to prevent crime and provide for the safety and welfare of the community.

Functions of the Department

The department provides public safety through its basic police patrol service. Our helicopter, motorcycles, and bicycle patrols allow us to respond quickly to emergency situations, and gives us the flexibility to act and prevent crime instead of merely reacting to crimes that have already occurred. The patrol function is supplemented by our highly specialized Detective Bureau, which conducts all follow-up investigations to reported crime. Our very active Community Relations Bureau, whose function is to increase the community's involvement in crime prevention and provide education in various aspects of public safety, conducts Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch meetings, and coordinates our annual public safety fair and bicycle rodeo.

Services Provided by Department
The department offers home security inspections, tours of the police facility for school groups, guest speakers for civic groups, and the Citizen's Academy. The department also hosts a military style "boot camp," called the PRIDE Platoon, for juveniles who may need an extra emphasis on self-discipline.
